Summary	The theory claims that Winston Churchill and/or the British Admiralty deliberately allowed or orchestrated the sinking of the RMS Lusitania in 1915 to draw the United States into World War I. Proponents suggest a secret Admiralty meeting and the withdrawal of an escort to ensure the ship's vulnerability. Evidence and historians indicate no such conspiracy, attributing the sinking to German submarine action and British negligence.
Origin	The theory gained prominence in 1972 with historian Colin Simpson's book, which alleged an Admiralty meeting involving Churchill. Earlier suspicions existed during the war, but Simpson's work popularized the modern conspiracy narrative.
Claimed	Churchill and the Admiralty deliberately placed the Lusitania in danger to provoke US entry into WWI. A secret Admiralty meeting two days before the sinking discussed the Lusitania's route and withdrew its escort. The British government covered up the true cause of the second explosion, possibly involving munitions. The ship was carrying illegal munitions, making it a legitimate target and the sinking a false-flag event.
