Summary	The Beast of Bodmin Moor is a purported alien big cat, often described as a black panther-like animal, reportedly sighted in the Bodmin Moor area of Cornwall, England since the early 1980s. Origin	The legend emerged in the early 1980s when residents of Bodmin Moor began reporting sightings of a large black cat, which they dubbed the 'Beast of Bodmin Moor'.
Claimed	A large black panther-like cat, three to five feet long with white-yellow eyes, roams Bodmin Moor. The beast is responsible for numerous livestock mutilations in the area. The animal may have escaped from a zoo or private collection, possibly imported illegally. Some believe it is a species of wild cat thought extinct in Britain for over a century. Paranormal explanations have been suggested due to reported sounds like a woman screaming.
Evidence / consensus	Official investigations, including a 1995 government report, found no verifiable evidence of a big cat on Bodmin Moor, though they did not rule out its existence. A leopard skull found in 1995 was identified by the Natural History Museum as having been imported as part of a leopard skin rug. A 1998 video was described by a zoo curator as 'the best evidence yet', but no conclusive proof has been produced.
