Summary	The Ark of the Covenant, a biblical chest said to contain the Ten Commandments, disappeared from the historical record after the Babylonian destruction of the First Temple. Various theories propose it was hidden in Jerusalem, taken to Ethiopia, or moved to other locations. No verified evidence confirms any current location.
Origin	Theories about the Ark's fate have existed since its disappearance from biblical accounts, with traditions recorded in Jewish, Christian, and Ethiopian sources over centuries.
Claimed	The Ark was hidden by King Josiah or Jeremiah before the Babylonian invasion, possibly in a cave on Mount Nebo or beneath the Temple Mount. The Ark was taken to Ethiopia by Menelik I, son of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, and now resides in the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in Axum. The Ark was captured by the Babylonians and taken to Babylon, or later smuggled to Rome by the Knights Templar and hidden in the Vatican. The Copper Scroll, a Dead Sea Scroll, may list the location of the Ark and other temple treasures.
Evidence / consensus	Scholars and archaeologists generally agree that the Ark's location is unknown and that no credible evidence supports any specific theory. Claims of possession in Ethiopia have been examined and dismissed by experts.
