Summary	The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp is a cryptid said to inhabit swampland in Lee County, South Carolina. Reports began in 1988 after a teenager claimed a reptilian creature damaged his car, leading to a media frenzy and numerous sightings. The creature is described as a tall, bipedal lizard-like humanoid with red eyes and scaly skin.
Origin	The legend originated in Lee County, South Carolina, in the late 1980s, with the first widely publicized sighting by Christopher Davis in June 1988.
Claimed	A 7-foot-tall, green, lizard-like humanoid with red eyes and three fingers attacked a car driven by Christopher Davis in 1988. The creature left toothmarks, scratches, hair, and muddy footprints on vehicles. Multiple sightings and encounters have been reported, including a 2008 incident where blood traces were found on a car. Some claim the creature is tied to ancient Native American legends or supernatural origins. A 2014 legend claims a group of Special Forces operators disappeared in the swamp after encountering the creature.
Evidence / consensus	Skeptics and investigators have found no credible evidence for the creature's existence. The initial sighting and subsequent reports are likely hoaxes or misidentifications of known animals, such as bears or coyotes. One reported sighting was recanted as a hoax, and blood evidence from a later incident was identified as from a domestic dog.
