Summary	Theories surrounding the 1967 disappearance of Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt, who vanished while swimming at Cheviot Beach. Proponents suggest various non-accidental explanations, including espionage, kidnapping, or faked death. Official investigations concluded accidental drowning.

Claimed	Holt was a spy for China and was picked up by a Chinese submarine. Holt faked his death to run off with a mistress. Holt was abducted by a UFO. Holt committed suicide. Holt was killed in a botched kidnapping related to Australia's involvement in Vietnam. Holt was assassinated by the CIA. Holt was kidnapped by communists and brainwashed for political information. Holt was killed by sabotage, possibly using a delayed-effect drug.
Evidence / consensus	Official police report (1968) and a 2005 coronial inquest concluded Holt's death was accidental drowning. The Chinese submarine theory is impossible due to shallow waters. No evidence supports any conspiracy theory.

A classic missing-body case generating Cold War paranoia. The submarine theory is geographically absurd; the drowning verdict is consistent with the rough conditions. The persistence of these theories says more about human psychology than about Holt's fate.
