Claimed	Churchill and the Admiralty knew the Lusitania was in danger and deliberately left it unprotected. An Admiralty meeting two days before the sinking decided to withdraw the escort HMS Juno, leaving the Lusitania vulnerable. The sinking was intended to provoke American entry into the war.
Evidence / consensus	Historians have found no evidence of such a meeting or a deliberate plot. Churchill was not at the Admiralty in the days before the sinking. The ship was warned of submarine activity, and the captain made errors, but there was no conspiracy.
