Summary	Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland is the subject of claims that it hides the Holy Grail, the skull of John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene's remains, or treasure of the Knights Templar in a sealed vault. These claims were popularized by Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code. Historians and scans have found no evidence for these treasures.
Origin	The legend of Templar treasure at Rosslyn predates Dan Brown, but the modern popularization stems from The Da Vinci Code (2003) and its film adaptation (2006).
Claimed	The Holy Grail is buried beneath the Apprentice Pillar or in a sealed vault under the chapel. The skull of John the Baptist is hidden at Rosslyn. Mary Magdalene's remains are interred at the chapel. A dozen armed Knights Templar are buried there. The chapel's stone carvings encode hidden messages or a musical melody. Ancient books rescued from a 1452 fire at Rosslyn Castle may be hidden under the chapel or castle.
Evidence / consensus	Historians and scans of the Apprentice Pillar found nothing inside. There is no evidence for the Holy Grail, John the Baptist's skull, or Templar treasure. The chapel's carvings are ornate but lack documented esoteric meaning.
