Summary	Nazi leaders, particularly Heinrich Himmler, believed that the Aryan race descended from the inhabitants of the lost island of Atlantis. They claimed that after Atlantis sank, survivors migrated to the Himalayas, especially Tibet, preserving the pure Aryan bloodline. This belief motivated SS expeditions to Tibet to find archaeological and anthropological evidence.
Origin	The theory emerged in late 19th-century occultism, particularly through Theosophy and Ariosophy, and was adopted by Nazi ideologues in the 1920s and 1930s. Himmler established the Ahnenerbe in 1935 to research ancestral heritage, and the 1938-1939 SS Tibet expedition was a direct result.
Claimed	Atlantis was a real island civilization whose people were the purest Aryans. Survivors of Atlantis fled to the Himalayas, particularly Tibet, after the island sank. The Tibetan people or certain groups there retained traces of the original Aryan race. The SS Tibet expedition was sent to find proof of the Aryan-Atlantean connection.
